📊 Partial Game Projections and Definitions (All Leagues)

Rules for partial-game projections (e.g. 1Q, 2H, 1P, F5) and how other spans are defined and graded.

Updated yesterday

Payday Fantasy offers full-game projections as well as partial-game projections. These include quarters, halves, periods, and inning-based segments such as F5 in baseball.

This article explains what each span means, what stats count toward them, and how entry settlement works across every sport we offer.

1. What Are Partial Game Projections?

Partial game projections apply to a specific portion of a game, not the full game.
Common spans include:

  • 1Q, 2Q, 3Q, 4Q – Individual quarters

  • 1H, 2H – First and second halves

  • 1P, 2P, 3P – Hockey periods

  • REG – Regulation only (Soccer, NHL)

  • F5 – First five innings (MLB)

How They Are Scored

Only the statistics recorded within the listed span count toward the projection.
Stats outside that span—before or after—do not count under any circumstances.

Examples:

  • A “1Q Points” projection only uses points scored in the first quarter.

  • A “2H Passing Yards” projection only uses yards gained in Q3 + Q4.

  • A “2P Shots” projection only uses shots taken in Period 2.

  • An “F5 Pitcher Strikeouts” projection includes only strikeouts recorded in the first five innings.

2. Finding Partial-game Projection Cards

They will appear as distinct cards labeled with spans like 1Q, 1H, 2P, F5, etc.

What Each Span Covers

Quarters (NBA, NFL, NCAAB, WNBA)

  • 1Q: Tipoff/Kickoff → end of first quarter

  • 2Q: Start of second quarter → halftime

  • 3Q: Start of second half → end of third quarter

  • 4Q: Start of fourth quarter → end of regulation

Halves

  • 1H: Start of game → halftime

  • 2H: Start of second half → end of regulation

Hockey Periods (NHL)

  • 1P: First period

  • 2P: Second period

  • 3P: Third period

Baseball Segments (MLB)

  • F5: First 5 innings

  • 1st Inning Markets: Results of inning 1

3. Participation Requirement for Partial-Game Projections

For all partial-game projections—such as 1Q, 2Q, 3Q, 4Q, 1H, 2H, 1P, 2P, 3P, F5, and similar spans—the player must enter the game and play during the specific span for any stats to count.

If a player does NOT enter the game at all during that time span of the projection → the projection is VOIDED.

Even if you select Less/Under on a partial-game projection, the player must still enter the game and play during that specific span for the pick to be eligible.

If the player never enters the game, the projection is voided, regardless of choosing More or Less.

Example:

  • You select 1Q Points – Less 5.5.

  • The player does not enter the game at all.

  • The pick is voided, not an automatic win.

A player must participate for any projection—More or Less—to count.

Voided projections follow our standard DNP/TIE/VOID settlement policy.

Only stats earned during the specific span count toward the projection.

If a projection is tied to a span like 1Q, 2H, 1P, or F5, then only the stats recorded inside that exact window apply.

Anything the player does before or after that span does not count.

If a player enters the game for even ONE second → the projection COUNTS.

Once a player logs any appearance:

  • The projection becomes active

  • It will grade based on the stats they accumulate within the listed span

Appearance = action.

This rule ensures consistency and fairness across all sports and projection types.

**IMPORTANT**
These partial projections do NOT have injury protection. If the player participates in the partial period span and then gets injured, the pick still counts and will settle based on whatever stats they earned in that span.

Voided Projection Handling

If a projection is voided due to no participation in the span, it follows our normal DNP / TIE / VOID settlement rules for your entry type.

When Do Partial-Game Projections Settle?

Even though these projections cover only a portion of the game, they are NOT settled immediately after that span ends.

All partial-game projections settle at the end of the full game, together with all other projections in your entry.

This ensures:

  • Consistent grading

  • No early settlement errors

  • All stats and participation are fully confirmed

  • Note: Live stats for partial-game projections may not update until the full game has ended. Your results are only final once the entry is officially settled. If you believe a stat correction is needed AFTER settlement, please contact support.
