What is Blocks?

Blocks is a simple yet challenging game that's easy to learn but hard to master. The goal is to place the colored shapes on the board and fill up the rows, columns and squares without leaving any gaps. Sounds simple, right? But don't be fooled – the game gets more difficult as you progress, with increasingly complex tiles and fewer empty spaces to work with.

How to win

You and your opponent have the exact same puzzle. Use your skill to earn as many points as possible.

The most points wins! You earn points by:

  • Placing shapes on the map: 1 point for each block in a shape (e.g., a 3-block shape earns 3 points).

  • Collecting points on the map: Covering a point tile with a shape adds the tile's value (e.g., placing on a 50-point tile earns an extra 50 points).

  • Clearing lines or squares: Completing a line (edge-to-edge) or a 9x9 square awards points; each cleared line or grid gives 20 points.

The game lasts 15 rounds. In each round you must place 3 shapes on the map. If you can’t fit a shape on the map, you game is over.

Time Limit

Players must complete the game within a set time limit. If the time expires, your current score will be recorded as your final result. There is no extra points for finishing game faster.

Strategies

Save Point Tiles Until the Last Moment

Leave bonus tiles on the map to collect them during the final rounds when your multiplier is at its highest.

Each round, a new bonus tile appears, but there can only be three tiles with points on the map at a time. This means if a new bonus appears, it will overwrite an existing point tile, significantly increasing its value.

Each additional bonus on the same tile raises its worth substantially—check the table below!

Although this makes gameplay more challenging, it's worth it - bonus tile values increase over time a lot!

Collect Multipliers as Quickly as Possible

Gather multipliers as early as you can!

In every round, one of the three shapes you receive will include a multiplier tile (marked as a differently colored block inside the shape).

When you clear a line or square containing the multiplier block, it activates immediately and remains active for the rest of the game, multiplying all future points you earn!

Since every subsequent score benefits from the multiplier, it’s crucial to collect these tiles as early as possible to maximize your score.

Move Planning

  • Good Move:

Place blocks strategically to activate multipliers as fast as possible.

  • Bad Move:

Clearing one line at a time in the same situation wastes potential bonuses and reduces your score efficiency.

Final Tips

  • There are no extra bonuses for clearing multiple lines in a single move, so don’t prioritize this unnecessarily.

  • There is no extra points for finishing game faster.

With these strategies, you’ll improve your gameplay and achieve higher scores in Block!

Remember, your opponent has the exact same map, bonus locations, and shapes. It’s your skill that truly makes the difference!
